My package came!

I knew this package was to arrive but didn’t know when but yesterday there it was on my porch – My Rug Hooking supplies arrived!
They came
from a very sweet lady– she knows who she is and I so I say THANK YOU – by her request she will remain un-named.

I thought I was getting wool strips to do a small Pineapple Rug – but to my surprise there was more than I imagined.
Colors of all shades from light to dark – I can make just about anything.

In the box were packs of wool strips, hook, rug hooking book, patterns and 2 kinds of linen…large enough to make an ample hooked rug.

I am not sure when this new project will start but it’s sitting here staring at me calling my name...I have several orders to sew, so I won’t be able to touch it until I’m through with those but when I do I will show you all what design I am choosing…probably a Pineapple but not sure.

Last Saturday night we were at our daughter in-laws brothers house for a birthday party for their mother, brother and his wife. Her brother lives on a farm and so we took Aidan into the barn to see the cows and one of the cats had kittens – I don’t think Aidan liked them at first but he warmed up. He liked the cows the best because that’s what he wanted to keep going back to see.

Then on Sunday there was a birthday party at Darren’s house for MaryAnn – she turned 40 so we got to see him again.

I made reservations for my trip to Lancaster the end of October for the Wholesale Market and another day of shopping with Lori (the blackcrow). I’m looking for new places to shop so if anyone has suggestions besides the ‘usual/obvious’ shops…let me know.

And I made reservations for the SIMPLE GOODS SHOW in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. The show is on Saturday, Nov. 6th.
Here’s the link:  http://www.picturetrail.com/simplegoods
Scroll down to find the exhibitors list – this is a very Prim show and Antiques
Anyone out there going???

Not much happening in my world right now so I’ll close for now.
Have a great weekend.

Fireplace Cover Makeover

Another simple makeover I did last night/this morning.

I love my fireplace cover.

I made it from an old window a few years ago. I knocked out the glass and inserted plywood in it's place, then added some "legs" for it to stand. I painted a simple American flag design on it. It's simple and it covers up our unused fireplace.

On the other side I painted it red with a simple star. I was in a hurry to get it done so this is what I came up with at the time. And I was never fond of it and never used this side. So I wanted to spruce it up.

Before state:

And here is is now! I love this quatrefoil design that I have been seeing everywhere lately. I wanted to add a little bit to our living room and thought this was a great place to try it. And if I didn't like it then I could always paint over it. :)

I downloaded the pattern HERE. I just traced and hand painted over my pencil markings. When I was done, I did add some dark walnut stain to make it more aged to match the frame.

I. Love. It.

It's a wonderful attention piece to add to our room.

Wreath $2 from garage sale. Isn't it cute?!

I wanted to share some of my goodies I got from my friend's garage sale this past weekend.

Chair $1
Enamelware 50 cents
Basket 25 cents
Stool 50 cents
Frame 25 cents
Door Free!

I didn't break the bank there!

Now I think my hubby wants me to slow down on these awesome deals. He wants his garage back. It's getting a little full.

I'm off to tackle more on my to-do list! Have a super day!

If I had to choose…

If I had to choose my favorite house that’s cropped up in blogland over the last year, it would have to be this one.

emersonhouse2

The farmhouse’s owner is non other than Emerson from EmersonMade.  See the tell-tale sign on the leopard print coat?  She makes and sells these smashing  colorful blooms.

emersonhouse1

White kitchen, open shelving, naked window.  What’s not to like?  Well… maybe the butcher knife and his little scissor friend.  They’re a little scary.

emersonhouse3

Would you believe this is their pantry?  My daughter would really dig this one.  Ha!

emersonhouse4

Sweetness.

emersonhouse5

And this one = perfection.  Ahhhhh, I love it!

Tick Tock Makeover

Happy Wednesday! I didn't mean to be gone so long...I hope none of you were worried that I killed over at my race this weekend. LOL

I'm sure it didn't even cross your mind.

Hubby and I had a great time during our run! Hubby got 2nd place in the 5 mile. A very fit 60+ year old man got 1st! I finished my 2 mile in the upper 2nd 1/2 of the group, so I was thankful for that.

Killer hills and RAIN, I'm blaming my "slower" time on! It looked like the rain was letting up as the race started. But as soon as we started to run, it started up again...along with lightning and thunder.

It felt like a scene from the "Wildcats" movie as Goldie Hawn is racing her football team in the rain and guck!

But I survived and we're ready to sign up for another run that will be in February. I'm sure a blizzard will be in the forecast that day. :)

I got some goodies at a couple garage sales this weekend that I need to share with you this week. Lots of projects floating around in this head of mine. I just need a few more hours in the day...don't we all?!

I did a quick makeover on my cute clock I bought at the 400 mile garage sales for $1.

It was cute before but there were some green tarnish areas and the clock didn't work.

I wanted to attempt to take the clock apart without shattering the curved glass (which was my favorite part).

I don't know what this came off off but it isn't a hanging clock because the clock element stuck out in the back. Seems like it was attached to "something" back in the day. But I loved the design, so it was going home with me!

One thing's for sure...they don't make things like they used to. That clock was a bear to disassemble!! It was WELL put together. Too bad it didn't work anymore.

Funny story. It took all my "man power" to get even the hands of the clock off. The hour hand went flying over my head...which I thought. I looked all over for that darn thing. It couldn't of went too far because I was sitting on the couch with a wall behind me. After several minutes of looking, I gave up...when I went to bed, the hour hand was in my bra. Nice, huh? I don't know how I didn't feel that metal thing in my undergarment all day!

Well here is my clock today!

I spray painted it with metal primer, then heirloom white, then added some asphalt glaze to it to make the detail pop!

I also added a new clock part from Hobby Lobby. I was tickled to bring this thing back to life!

I added a simple ribbon for easier hanging.

Don't you love quick and easy makeovers like this? What have you been working on lately?

I have a list of things that I need to work on!

THIS WEEK

Makeover:
Dresser
Stool
Firescreen
Light Fixtures
Surprise Trash Find

Stay tuned for project updates!

Do you want to Journey to the Center of the Earth?

Peter Montgomery is hoping to build a "Journey to the Center of the Earth" style drill as an art installation/halloween decoration.

The problem? Lack of funds. If you'd like to support his endeavor, throw him some spare change over on Kickstarter.

For more on Peter's past Halloween displays (he's legit), check out this post.

Kickstarter works in a pretty neat way: The rules are really simple: If you make or exceed your funding goal by the specified deadline, you get the money. If you don't make the goal, you get nothing. In my case, my deadline is October 14, so there are 21 days to raise the money. Also, people get gifts to thank them for pitching in.

It's not very often you get to help out on something this cool.

Hanging On...

The post on ways to hang pictures generated a lot of comments -- many people pointed out ways to upgrade the "pants hanger" -- darker wood, painting the metal, adding metal decorations to the wood, etc. The best idea, however, came from an email from Jen, who suggested using Victorian spring clips. You can see what they are and how Jen uses them above.

You can buy them at Lee Valley Hardware, where they come in 2 different styles. The drilled hole in the back lets you hang them on a nail.

Victorian Spring Clip. 4" long overall and 2-1/2" wide at the tip, it weighs about 7 oz.
They are $6.20 for one, $4.49 if you buy 6 or more.

Cast Steel Spring Clip. The cast steel is a bit bigger at 4-1/4" long overall and 2-1/2" wide at the tip, it weighs about 6 oz. $8.80 for one, $7.10 for 6 or more.

For my purposes I think two at the corners of a large print (and perhaps two more at the bottom? I think I'll have to experiment...) would be as cheap as a poster frame, and walk the casual vs Victorian style line that I want my office to have.

Waiting for the leaves to fall

It’s quite a task to prepare for Autumn in 90 degree weather.  So while I’m waiting for the leaves to fall, these inspired ideas help hold me over…

falldisplay1image courtesy BHG.com

I love the mixture of colors and layered textures in this votive jar.  If only it was hanging from a jute ribbon, it might even be better.

falldisplay2image courtesy BHG.com

I absolutely adore this idea of a baby tree in a burlap sack.  Could it get any sweeter?  I wouldn’t change a thing.

falldisplay3image courtesy here

A pumpkin vase.  Now why hadn’t I ever thought of it?  Am I the only one?

falldisplay4image courtesy here

And you know cooking’s not my thing, but how could I resist baking itty bitty acorn cakes?  I could not.

falldisplay5image courtesy here

This is a great idea for a little snack buffet… using a  family of gourds as serving bowls.   Wouldn’t it be even cuter to fill them with different nuts?

falldisplay8image courtesy here

And last but not least is my favorite of all… a simple display of pale pumpkins with brown thistles and pinecones.  The subdued always seems to win out with me.  (if you haven’t noticed;)
